Travel Blog

Waiting for the next trip.

I know I haven’t updated this blog in a long time. This does not mean I won’t be updating this blog at all, just less frequently. Dallas-Fort Worth is a more permanent home again. Andy has taken on another local job.

Fret not! There will be posts about local fun. I also have two maybe, three trips planned for the near future.

On the road again.

After, many weeks of being stranded (I am being a little dramatic with that term) in California…we went home to Dallas. I played many video games and did a TON of laundry. Since then we have been to Florida and we are on our way to Virginia.

Oh and did I mention we found a dog in Los Angeles.

His name is Oscar.

Wendover, Utah.

After enjoying our stay in Michigan, we were starting to worry that we wouldn’t get a load for this week. At the last moment we got a run for San Fransisco, California.

Awesome!

Has it been a easy road so far? No.

So far we have:

  • Drove through a snow storm in the Midwest.
  • Drove through the most terrible winds from Iowa all the way to Wyoming.
  • Of course we cannot forget blowing our thermostat in Wyoming. (Somehow we managed to find a repair shop open on a Saturday, after five PM.)

Hopefully, the rest of our trip goes more smoothly. Driving through Salt Lake City and the Salt Flats definitely has me optimistic.

Waterford, Michigan.

Many people ask me,

"What is the strangest thing you guys have hauled?"

I never have a good answer. After a certain amount of time, nothing is strange. Yet, I am still impressed by the “cool” that we tote around the country. This morning we delivered a jet engine to an airstrip.

Yes, we were one of those vehicles I used to watch from the window at the airport…zooming and weaving around the planes.

Stellar.

Update Schmupdate.

So much has happened since my last update. Most of which I really did not feel like documenting. There is a time for fun and a time to focus on the important stuff.

So here is a quick refresh…

  • We have been making a circuit from Dallas to Chicago to Michigan back down to Dallas….over and over and over again. With one small exception; a visit to Virginia.

Virginia Beach, Virginia.

  • The Tran has been in and out of the shop for pretty much the same problem since my last post. After spending an accumulated amount of roughly four thousand dollars, the problem is still not fixed.
  • My mother had two surgeries and then ended up getting pneumonia and an infection. This landed her in the ICU. After a third, emergency surgery, she has been on a slow path to recovery.
  • We spent Thanksgiving in Chicagoland. I made a delicious meal. (I also found out that my food blog was mysteriously deleted)

Our homemade holiday key lime pie.

  • We had our first snow in Michigan for the season. It was a lot better than last year in Fargo, North Dakota.
  • We are back in Dallas, Texas and it is good to be home.
  • Next Florida, then we’ll probably do the Dallas to Michigan circuit all over again.

Livingston, Illinois.

Yes we FINALLY got out of Dallas.

What a relief!

Then, on our way to Michigan we stopped at a roadside attraction that we often pass on the road.

A place called the Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston, Illinois. Outside are a few colorful large scale attractions. Inside…all the antiques your heart desires!

The view from far away.

UFO Futuro House.

Twistee Treat Ice Cream Shack. (YES!! They DO sell Ice Cream)

Dallas, Texas.

Yes, we made it back home. Yes, we have been home for far too long. Yes, this is why I have made so few blog posts.

Hopefully we will be back on the road soon.

Rockford, Illinois.

One of the things I love about being on the road is all the unique places I get to see. Oddly the places I enjoy the most are usually quite boring to the naked eye. At these places, with camera in hand, I go on an exploring adventure.

While in Rockford, in my down time, I found this awesome and slightly dangerous old factory. Sure, I probably shouldn’t be climbing around twisted metal, asbestos, and broken glass…

BUT I DID ANYWAYS!!
